FAQs
What is a doula?
A Doula is a trained (non medical) birth professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and practical support to a mother and her partner (if applicable) during pregnancy, birth and beyond to achieve the most satisfying experience.
Why would I need a doula?
As a doula I am dedicated to giving you personalized can so you can have a positive experience and reach your birth goals. I offer support in many ways. These are a few of them:
Continuity of care
Acceptance
Encouragement
Support of choices
Evidence based resources
Comfort measures
Kindness and care
What kind of births do you attend?
I support births at public hospitals, private hospitals, birth centers and homebirths. I support VBACs, inductions, elective caesareans, twin/multiples and births considered high risk.
How can I get my partner on board with wanting a doula?
As a doula I don’t replace a birthing partner, I am there to guide and support you both through the birth process. Together we work as a team to support the birthing mother to have the best possible experience. Having a doula present allows the partner the opportunity to be free to have an experience of their own. Having a doula and partner present at birth means the mother can have the best possible support, her partner's loving care and the doula's expertise and guidance in childbirth. This can deepen your connection as a couple bringing you closer together. As a doula I am there for the family as a whole as they transition into parenthood.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes I do! I understand that hiring a doula can be a big investment and I am happy to discuss an arrangement that will suit your individual needs whether it is weekly/fortnightly/monthly payments. I require the payment to be complete by week 36 of your pregnancy.
What happens if I have a Caesarean?
If you are having an elected/emergency caesarean, your partner will accompany you. Depending on your place of birth and the hospital policies I will endeavor to be present too.
If you do not have a birth partner and I am your primary support person I would be honoured to be with you for your caesarean, providing you with comfort, reassurance and emotional and practical support.
Do you have a backup doula?
If I am unable to attend your birth due to unforeseeable circumstances (sickness/emergency, other) one of my colleagues will attend your birth in my place. I work closely with doulas who have a similar philosophy and approach to me and will introduce you to them so that you feel comfortable with them before the birth.
When are you on call from?
I am on call from 37-42 weeks
